Top 10 Activities to Avoid in Case of a Bird Flu Outbreak

The following activities carry a certain risk for contracting bird flu in areas where outbreaks of bird flu have been detected.

1. Direct contact with domestic fowl or wild birds, dead or alive.

2. Sacrificing domestic or wild birds.

3. Butchering poultry or wild birds.

4. Poultry farm work.

5. Handling bird feces as fertilizer or otherwise.

6. Exposure to bird feces or respiratory tract fluids in drinking water or food.

7. Contact with surfaces contaminated with bird: feces, feathers, blood, etc.

8. Eating raw poultry meat, eggs or blood.

9. Very close contact with bird flu patients.

10. Laboratory work investigating or testing samples for bird flu.
