Hemorrhagic Signs

Definition: Signs that indicate that a patient has a hemorrhagic fever, like ebola. Many of these signs may also indicate other diseases and conditions, such as hepatitis C, vasculitis or vitamin C deficiency.

Hemorrhagic signs include:

  • Bleeding gums
  • Bleeding from mouth, nose (called epistaxis), or ears
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Rash of small spots (petechiae) which may be counted using the tourniquet test
  • Large blotches (ecchymoses)
