Infectious TV Shows and Sid the Science Kid

Thursday December 11, 2008

TV shows about medicine can be infectious, but not necessarily in a bad way. Two of my favorite shows right now are Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs. As I mentioned in my last blog, these shows sometimes stretch the truth in order to make a more fascinating storyline. I really don't mind--I just hope that others aren't watching these shows for educational purposes.

Speaking of medical shows, my preschooler loves "Sid the Science Kid" on PBS. We just watched an episode about germs and why it's important to wash your hands with soap and water. In the show, Teacher Susie comes up with creative ways to help the kids understand that even though they can't see the germs, washing with soap and water gets rid of them.

If you're a parent, teacher, or health educator, PBS has provided a list of other creative ideas for helping kids learn about germs.

As for "The Doctors" TV show, I haven't actually watched it yet, so I can't really comment. But whenever I'm channel surfing, and I flip past that show, I can't help thinking "The Bachelor".
