Thanksgiving: Giving Thanks for Your Health

From Ingrid Koo, Ph.D., About.com GuideNovember 28, 2008

Now that Thanksgiving Day is coming to an end, hopefully, all your guests had an enjoyable infectious-microbe-free meal and are happily sleeping in a tryptophan-induced bliss.

It's also a good time to review your kitchen habits while preparing the big meal. Did you remember to wash, separate, cook, and chill according to guidelines provided by the Partnership for Food Safety Education?

If you or your guests are feeling a little ill, take a look at this primer on food-borne diseases and how they make you sick.

Got diarrhea? And you're not lactose-intolerant? Find out more about diarrheal diseases, which microbes are responsible, and when to call your doctor.

Best wishes for Happy Thanksgiving weekend! And keep healthy as you head out for Black Friday!
