Alligator Blood in Your Meds

Monday April 7, 2008
Not yet, but maybe one day your doctor will prescribe a little alligator blood instead of a more traditional antibiotic, reports BBC news. Alligators rarely get infections, and a component of their blood kills all sorts of bacteria, fungi and viruses in laboratory studies reports Louisiana, USA researchers at the American Chemical Society conference in New Orleans, USA. It's unknown whether this substance could help humans, but it's worth a try. Now that alligators are abundant once more, perhaps a bit of sustainable culling could save some human lives.
